Piers Morgan has attacked Erik ten Hag and Manchester United’s decision to release Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal international scored a hat-trick for Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo scored three goals and assisted one of Sadio Mane’s two goals as Al-Nassr defeated Al-Fateh 5-0 to clinch their first Saudi Pro League victory.
With a victory and two losses, they are ranked tenth, although they have qualified for the Asian Champions League and just won the Arab Club Champions Cup thanks to two late Ronaldo goals.
Morgan has often chastised Ten Hag for allowing Ronaldo to leave the club, and he lashed out at the United manager again after the Portuguese star’s performance on Friday.
‘As @Cristiano scores 3 goals and makes a fantastic assist for Mane, whilst appearing stronger & hungrier than ever, a reminder that Erik ‘I’m a genius, just ask me,’ Morgan wrote. Ten Hag thought him unnecessary for a Manchester United team that can’t hit a barn door.’
Piers Morgan has slammed Manchester United and Erik ten Hag’s decision to get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo last November after he scored a hat-trick for Al-Nassr
Ronaldo received the match ball following Al-Nassr’s first Saudi Pro League victory of the season.
Manchester United have had a poor start to the Premier League season, scoring only one goal in their first two games – a shaky 1-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford and a 2-0 loss away at Tottenham.
Ten Hag slammed his own attackers following a lifeless display in London that saw Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Antony miss chances.
‘You saw today, the performance (was) really good in the first half, but you have to understand you have to score a goal,’ he insisted.
‘Because of the significance of the first goal, players must accept responsibility. In this time, focus, passion, and drive are required to maintain the overview and score the first goal.
‘It’s about belief and we believe these players because of last year as well. They can score goals.
‘But it is obvious why we signed a striker. If everything goes well, (Anthony) Martial is on (his) way back, Hojlund is coming, so we have more players capable to score a goal, but also the players on the pitch, they can score goals.’
Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta in a deal that could rise to £72million, is currently absent with a back injury and missed the Spurs clash.
Ronaldo left the Red Devils by mutual consent last November after he hit out at the club in an explosive interview with Morgan.
