As the offseason progresses, Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is gaining more attention. This week, Reaves has received a lot of attention in the Philippines during the FIBA World Cup, and he’s also getting a lot of attention back home in Los Angeles.
A painting featuring Austin Reaves was recently unveiled in the City of Angels.
The mural depicts several milestones throughout Reaves’ career, including his “ice in his veins” celebration, which he learned from teammate D’Angelo Russell, as well as his current abroad stint with Team USA.
The 25-year-old has risen quickly to stardom.
Reaves went undrafted out of Oklahoma in 2021 before signing with the Lakers. He saw limited action in the first few months of the 2021-22 season before securing his status in the rotation near the conclusion.
Reaves’ play improved dramatically last year, and by the end of the Lakers’ playoff run, he was perhaps the team’s third most significant player, trailing only LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
To be fair, a major portion of Reaves’ unexpected celebrity status stems from the fact that he plays for one of, if not the, most prestigious club in the league.
Still, that shouldn’t detract from what he’s accomplished on the court. Reaves signed a four-year contract extension with the Lakers this summer.
If this painting is any indication, Los Angeles is delighted to have him back.
