Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea has reached an agreement to recruit young talent Cole Palmer from Man City for £45 million. Of that £40m is upfront and £5m is surcharges.
Previously, Romano also revealed that Palmer had agreed to personal agreements with Chelsea and that he would soon undergo medical examination procedures to join the Stamford Bridge team.
Palmer was born in 2002, growing up from the youth academy of Man City. He started to join the first team in the 2020/21 season, but it was not until this season that he really created the first buzz. Currently, Palmer still has a contract with Man City until 2026.
Palmer is considered one of Man City’s top talents and has played for many British youth teams. The 21-year-old star has continuously shined recently, scoring in both the English Super Cup and European Super Cup matches.
However, he still hasn’t been able to play regularly in the first team of Blue Man, so he wants to leave. In the first three matches in the Premier League this season, Palmer only had a total of 10 minutes on the field, all of which took place against Burnley in the opening match of the tournament. In the last two matches against Newcastle and Sheffield United, Palmer had to sit on the bench.
Palmer is targeted by Chelsea to replace Christopher Nkunku who has a long-term injury. Coach Mauricio Pochettino highly appreciates the potential of the player born in 2002 and wants him in the squad.
Meanwhile, Man City has just reached an agreement to recruit Matheus Nunes from Wolves for no less than £50 million with additional fees, so they are ready to let Palmer leave.
By spending 45 million pounds to buy Palmer, Chelsea has exceeded the spending limit of 1 billion pounds to buy players under owner Todd Boehly. In the 2023 Summer transfer period alone, the Blues “burned” 369 million pounds.
However, according to The Times, after Cole Palmer, Chelsea still does not want to stop as they are trying to negotiate to bring back Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe in the remaining days of the 2023 summer market.
