United deadline transfers sum-up: Key deals, Amrabat drama, Greenwood exit

Manchester United fans witnessed their busiest transfer deadline day in history, as FOUR players joined Erik ten Hag’s team.

Altay Bayindir, Sofyan Amrabat, Jonny Evans, and Sergio Reguilon, as well as goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, made late signings to Old Trafford. United fans are ecstatic about the signing of Amrabat, but they are unconcerned about the other three transfers.

In terms of outgoings, Mason Greenwood’s future is secure… for the time being. He’s on loan at Getafe. Harry Maguire remains a Manchester United player despite failing to gain a deadline-day transfer, with all eyes now on the January transfer market.

Here are the top news stories from United’s deadline day…

Sofyan Amrabat

Amrabat’s season-long loan move at Old Trafford was finalized only 15 minutes before the 11 p.m. deadline, with United paying Fiorentina a loan fee of €10 million (£8.6 million). Ten Hag’s first choice midfielder was the 27-year-old Moroccan international.

United have the option to make Amrabat’s move permanent at the conclusion of the season for €25 million (£21.4 million), although this is not a requirement. Amrabat, who shined at last year’s World Cup in Qatar, previously played for Dutch club Utrecht under Ten Hag.

“It’s a huge honor to be a Manchester United player,” Amrabat stated upon joining. “I’ve had to wait for this moment, but I’m someone who always follows my heart, and now I’m representing the club of my dreams.” I am a passionate player, and I want to add that enthusiasm to the club. I will give everything I have into every action I take for the team.

“I understand Erik ten Hag’s working style and what he expects from his players. Earlier in my career, his teaching and counsel helped me so much as a player. I believe he’ll help me bring out the best in myself so that I can assist the team succeed this season.”

Evans, Jonny

On deadline day, Evans, as expected, signed a one-year contract with United. The Northern Ireland international, who made 198 appearances for United during his first term, has returned to Old Trafford after impressing Ten Hag in pre-season.

Evans joined United after being released by Leicester in June. He accomplished enough to secure a seat on the club’s US tour, but it’s taken Ten Hag a long to decide whether to hire him full-time. On Friday, that choice was made.

“I am thrilled to be joining Manchester United, a club that has always felt like home to me,” Evans said. “This club and its fans have shaped me as a player and as a person since I was 15 years old, and I am thrilled to be back as part of this talented squad.”

“I’ve really enjoyed working under the manager and his coaching staff since the start of pre-season, and I’m looking forward to helping this group achieve success together at this fantastic football club.”

Serigo Reguilon

Due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Ten Hag was obliged to sign a new left-back on deadline day. The manager of Manchester United chose to sign Reguilon from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan.

Reguilon struggled to make an impression at Tottenham and was judged surplus to requirements by manager Ange Postecoglou, thus the move has divided United fans. Nonetheless, the seasoned defender will give Ten Hag with much-needed protection.

“In life, you have to be prepared for anything, and the opportunity to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not pass up,” Reguilon said.

“After speaking with the manager, I understand what he expects from me, and I am ready to contribute to the team’s success.” I am certain that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am eager to compete for this team and demonstrate my abilities to everyone.”

Altay Bayindir

United’s first deadline day acquisition was goalkeeper Bayindir, who joined from Fenerbahce for £4.3 million. The Turkey international, who has preserved 53 clean sheets throughout his career, has agreed to a four-year contract extension with a 12-month option.

Bayindir, 25, will take over at Old Trafford after Dean Henderson leaves for Crystal Palace. “It is a huge honour to join Man United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club,” Bayindir stated.

Mason Greenwood

Greenwood has departed United on a loan basis. The England international, 21, joined Getafe in a last-minute agreement. Getafe are paying a fraction of his salaries and have not paid a loan fee, leaving the door open for a return to Old Trafford.

On Friday night, United issued a statement. “Mason Greenwood has joined LaLiga side Getafe on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance,” it said. Greenwood can now begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to support Mason and his family during this difficult time.”
