Erik ten Hag’s new attacker made his United debut in a thrilling game at the Emirates

Rasmus Hojlund made his debut for Manchester United against Arsenal on Sunday – and fans were impressed with his first appearance for the club despite the defeat. Hojlund, 20, joined United in a £64m move from Atalanta earlier this summer but had to wait to make his debut, with a back issue keeping him out of United’s first three Premier League games of the season. He was named in the matchday squad for United’s trip to face Arsenal but could only make the bench, with Anthony Martial starting up front instead.

United took the lead through a brilliant Marcus Rashford finish against the run of play before Arsenal equalised through captain Martin Odegaard. With the match level at 1-1 heading into the closing stages, United manager Erik ten Hag introduced Hojlund for his debut – the Denmark international coming on for Martial with around 25 minutes left.

Hojlund made an immediate impact, helping them launch several attacks with his impressive hold-up play. And he almost created a goal with a brilliant flick, only to see Alejandro Garnacho’s fine finish ruled out for offside with just minutes remaining in the match.

Agonisingly for United and Hojlund, it would be Arsenal who went on to score agian – Declan Rice firing past Andre Onana well into added time before Gabriel Jesus added a third to secure all three points for the home side. But despite the defeat, United fans were quick to take to social media after full-time to praise Hojlund for his energy and enthusiasm up front
