Kylian Mbappe scored both goals as France defeated Ireland 2-0, extending their winning streak to five rounds of Group B qualifying for Euro 2024.

France did not have too many problems at Parc des Princes. Mbappe and his colleagues dominated from the start thanks to their mobility. They had 63% control of the ball and completed 15 times. Ireland, on the other hand, only completed three times.

Gavin Bazunu, the goalkeeper, stopped Adrien Rabiot’s long shot in the third minute but had to concede to the next long shot in the 19th. Mbappe passed back to Tchouameni after battling two Irish defenders in the penalty area. The ball flew through the defense and into the far corner of the goal.

Following the opening goal, France continued to control without overpowering. Mbappe almost earned his own table in the 39th minute. The captain scored, but the referee declined to call it because Marcus Thuram was offside.

Thuram needed only three minutes after the halftime break to redeem himself. Mbappe booted Inter Milan defender John Egan, then turned around and struck from six meters away to seal a 2-0 victory.

Thuram’s first goal for France in 11 appearances came in front of his legendary father, former defender Lilian Thuram. Lilian Thuram was a key member of the Cannon squad that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 during her time at the top.

Ireland has only one chance. Chiedozie Ogbene, on the other hand, was unable to beat goalkeeper Mike Maignan. France virtually entirely played on the opposing team’s field in the final 30 minutes. Tchouameni’s other long-range drive in the 67th minute, Ousmane Dembele’s narrow corner off the post in the 72nd minute, and Thuram’s header in 90+4 minutes all could have raised the score.

Following the victory on September 7, France maintained its lead in Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifying round with 15 absolute points. They are nine points ahead of the two teams in second and third place, the Netherlands and Greece. France may earn a spot in the finals in their next encounter, which is on October 13 against the Netherlands, who just defeated Greece 3-0. Ireland, on the other hand, has only three points. Gibraltar is at the bottom of the standings and currently has nil points.

France will travel to Germany on September 12 to play a friendly against next year’s Euro hosts. Meanwhile, the remaining four Group B teams, the Netherlands, Greece, Ireland, and Gibraltar, will face off.

The top two teams from each Euro qualification group advance to the final round. The final round will include 24 teams and will take place in ten German locations from June 14 to July 14.
