PSG lost to Nice at home despite Mbappe’s double

The defending champion PSG hosted Nice, the team that had an unblemished record after the first four rounds, in the first match of round 5 of Ligue 1 2023/2024.

Nice players caused many problems for the home squad in the first few minutes of the game. Starting with Mbappe’s situation of losing the ball in his own half in the 20th minute, the away team promptly counterattacked. Terem Moffi then received the ball in a good position and scored a risky shot to put the game ahead.

However, Mbappe was able to fix the error just 8 minutes later. Taking a feed from Hakimi’s right wing, the French striker fired a shot into Nice’s net, tying the game at 1-1. It was also the final goal of the first half.

Nice pulled PSG back into a chasing position in the second half. Terem Moffi burst through on the left wing and crossed cleanly for Gaetan Laborde to score in the 53rd minute, giving Nice a 2-1 lead.

Terem Moffi continued to impress in the 68th minute, assisting Nice to score their third goal. After receiving the ball on the right flank, the Nigerian striker dribbled it into the middle before taking a long shot with his left foot. Donnarumma, the goalkeeper, was defeated.

PSG went all-in on the attack after taking a two-goal lead. In the 87th minute, rookie Muani crossed the ball for Mbappe to volley into the goal, cutting the home team’s lead to 2-3. However, the French striker’s brilliance was insufficient for the home team to keep a point at Parc des Princes.

PSG were robbed of second position in Ligue 1 by their opponents with one point less after losing 2-3 at Nice. Coach Luis Enrique’s club has only 8 points after 5 matches, trailing top team Monaco by 2 points despite having played one more match.
