David de Gea is allegedly in talks with a new club to continue his career after being released by Manchester United.
The Spaniard’s contract expired at the end of June, and despite initial talks to extend it, United let it expire and signed Inter Milan’s Andre Onana as his £47 million replacement.
De Gea issued an emotional message on July 8 after leaving United following a 12-year relationship.
Despite being strongly associated with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Bayern Munich, the 32-year-old has yet to find a new club.
While he did not find work before the transfer window closed, the fact that he is a free agent implies that he can still join a new team.
And, according to Fichajes, a return to Spain and La Liga is possible. Real Betis are thought to be in contact with De Gea, who is said to be out of choices.
The Andalusian club were beaten 5-0 by champions Barcelona in their last game and are seeking for a third goalkeeper to join Claudio Bravo and Rui Silva, who are both 40-year-old former Manchester City players.
According to a fresh source, “Betis’ need for a quality goalkeeper is obvious, and they cannot afford to wait until the January transfer window.”
“Betis is very interested in signing David De Gea, a goalkeeper with extensive experience in the Premier League and with the Spanish national team.”
Valencia is also thought to be interested, but may be unable to satisfy pay demands.
In any case, it appears that the former Atletico Madrid man will have to take a significant pay reduction, since he was rumoured to be making £375,000 per week at United.
Nabil Fekir, Betis’ highest-paid player, is estimated to earn £112,000 every week.
