Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, firmly asserts that the club has no regrets regarding their decision to sign Rasmus Hojlund instead of Harry Kane during the summer transfer window. Despite initially exploring a move for Kane, United ultimately chose not to pursue the England captain due to the high costs associated with acquiring him from Tottenham Hotspur.
In the end, Bayern Munich agreed to a £100 million deal to secure Kane’s services from Spurs, while United opted to secure the signing of Hojlund from Atalanta for £72 million. Despite Hojlund’s arrival at Old Trafford with a back injury, the club is taking careful measures to manage his recovery and bring him back to full fitness.
Meanwhile, Kane has made an impressive start at Bayern, scoring four goals in four Bundesliga appearances. However, Ten Hag remains steadfast in his belief that United made the correct decision during the transfer window and dismisses any notion of regret.
When asked about United’s potential regrets about missing out on Kane, Ten Hag responded, “I don’t think we have to revisit this debate.”
‘We are happy with Rasmus, obviously first game he was injured.
‘He played against Arsenal, he’s now had a start, now we have to integrate him in the team.
‘But you can see he’s a big talent and he will contribute to our game. We’re quite confident of that.’
Kane, meanwhile, says he is ‘really happy’ about joining Bayern in the summer.
‘Obviously, over the summer I know there were some talks between a few clubs in the background, but Bayern were a team I was really interested and excited by,’ said the England captain ahead of Bayern’s Champions League clash with United on Wednesday evening.
