Lamine Yamal who had served as Sergio Ramos’ El Clasico mascot for seven years, caused the Real Madrid legend to score an own goal

Sergio Ramos most certainly didn’t foresee that the 37-year-old Barcelona player would one day cause him pain when he grasped Lamine Yamal’s hand in the Nou Camp tunnel back in 2016.

Honestly, Ramos may not have thought he would be playing for Sevilla again, and his own goal on Friday that decided the game at the Nou Camp may have made him wish he wasn’t.

With a 1-0 victory over Sevilla at home, Barcelona kept up their lead in La Liga. Ramos’ own goal in the 76th minute cemented the victory.

However, Yamal’s actions, who is now 16 years old, were what ultimately led him to commit the serious close-range blunder in the stadium where he had previously seen great success with Real Madrid.

A video of Yamal and Ramos holding hands in the Nou Camp tunnel has now surfaced, showing the two players before Spain’s two best teams take the field for another El Clasico match.

When Yamal, then eight years old, and his mascot pals took their place among the Real Madrid players awaiting the start of a match against their Catalan rivals, he was overcome with stardom.

Admiringly, Yamal raises an eyebrow at Ramos before shaking hands with the four-time Champions League victor, grinning broadly.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema’s goals proved to be the difference as Madrid went on to win the game 2-1.

After being sent out during the encounter, Ramos returned to the location nine years later and didn’t fare much better.

When Ramos nudged the ball past Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland on Friday, Yamal, the Barcelona prodigy, rushed off to celebrate, wearing an even wider smile.

Ramos gave up the own goal because to Yamal’s attempted pass. The Barcelona player received Raphinha’s cross at the back post and delivered a first-touch pass back across the goal’s face.

Lazily extending his leg to try to stop the ball, Ramos only succeeded in turning it into his own net, causing the Nou Camp to erupt in celebration of the former Madrid player’s error.

In his brief career to date, the 16-year-old sensation has already scored for the Spain national team—which Ramos once led to a World Cup championship—and is Barcelona’s youngest-ever senior player.
