Chicago Blackhawks have made eight roster cuts after their opening preseason game

Three Blackhawks were sent down to their minor league affiliates, and five were sent to Rockford.

The Chicago Blackhawks are continuing to cut down their roster as training camp progresses. On Thursday and Friday of last week, the organization announced separate rounds of roster cuts for training camp.

Back to Juniors

After a thrilling 2-1 overtime triumph in the opening game of the preseason, the Blackhawks sent three forwards down to their junior clubs.

Martin Misiak, who played Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues, is returning to the OHL’s Erie Otters.

Nick Lardis, a third-round pick in 2023, is coming back to the OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs.

Alex Pharand, selected in the fourth round, is also returning to the OHL to play for the Sudbury Wolves in his third year in the league.

The AHL Awaits

The Blackhawks sent five players to the Rockford IceHogs, their American Hockey League farm team, after practice on Friday.

Jalen Luypen, a forward who signed an entry-level contract with the Blackhawks in 2022, has been sent straight to Rockford.

Josh Healey, Ross MacDougall, Josh Maniscalco, and Andrew Perrott are four defensemen that signed professional tryout contracts in order to participate in training camp. Those players’ PTOs were terminated, and the Blackhawks sent them to Rockford.

What’s On Tap Next?

The Blackhawks now have 46 players in training camp after these trades (29 forwards, 12 defenders, and 5 goalies).

On Saturday, the Hawks will travel to Minnesota to take on the Wild in their second exhibition game. Several depth forwards and a few young defensemen are likely to play based on Friday’s practice lineup.
