Since Antony was put on leave of absence, these are the first pictures of the Brazil international returning to Manchester United’s training area.
The former Ajax star’s last Premier League appearance for United came in a 3-1 loss at Arsenal at the beginning of September. The club put him on leave after he was accused of physical violence, which he disputes.
Prior to United’s Saturday encounter with Crystal Palace, it was announced that Antony would be reincorporated into the first team’s training regimen. He was seen at Old Trafford but was not included in the United team for their 1-0 loss on Saturday.
“Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so,” a statement released by United read. “As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed.
“This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
After his return, several images of Antony have surfaced. Although the 23-year-old is thought to be fit for selection, it is unclear if he will start in the Champions League match against Galatasaray.
Following talks with United’s women’s team, Antony’s comeback was authorized, according to a story from The Mail earlier this week. According to reports, Ellie Norman, the chief communications officer, presided over the meeting, which also included John Murtough, the director of football.
In response to the accusations made against him, Antony has not been detained or charged in the UK or Brazil. He also continues to fully cooperate with investigations in both nations.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, was questioned over Antony’s potential return to play. Although he acknowledged having spoken with the player, the manager remained reticent on the subject.
“I can’t tell at this moment, first he has to be back,” Ten Hag said on Friday. “I’ve spoken to him, but that doesn’t give you the impression of how he is, how his mental status is.
“On Saturday he will be back in training. No, I don’t think it’s a distraction. We will focus on the games. He will do as well.”
