Jayson Tatum and his son Deuce suddenly appeared at the baseball field instead of the basketball court as usual for a special day in St. Louis

With his youngster, Jayson Tatum relished a memorable occasion in his hometown.

The 25-year-old NBA forward and his 5-year-old son Jayson “Deuce” Christopher took the mound during the St. Louis Cardinals’ game against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday at Busch Stadium.

Matching Cardinals jerseys were worn by the father and son for their appearance, and Deuce cheerfully hopped around while his father threw the ceremonial pitch.

The Jayson Tatum Foundation provided school and athletic equipment to Tatum’s recipients in a community facility in the St. Louis area the day before.

“STL hero was all I ever wanted to be,” he said, sharing scenes from the occasion on X.

Deuce, Tatum’s son, was born when he was 19 and has since become a major star for the Celtics and other NBA players. Deuce is shared by Tatum and his ex-girlfriend Toriah Lachell.

In a press conference in June, the NBA player—who gave birth to Deuce in December 2017, just six months after being selected by the Celtics—talked about being a role model for a father and his strong relationship with his kid.

“I believe the year I was drafted in 2017 was the greatest of my life. I didn’t have Deuce at the time, but he was born in that year, so that was significant. I recently had a child, and I’m starting this new phase in my career,” Tatum said.

The Boston Celtics great said, “My mindset was not to sacrifice either. I was going to be the best basketball player and the best father as well as the best.” “There were no rules to follow or precise instructions for doing it. It ultimately came down to what was organic.”

“I just act in a normal way. I spend every day with him. Since I was 19 when I was drafted, I believe that being able to go through this journey together is similar to us growing up together,” Tatum said. “As he’s gotten older, I’m pursuing my career, and we’re growing up together while sharing these moments.” For me, that’s the most exciting aspect.”
