How Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic Keeps Family Ties on His Shoes Every Game

Nikola Jokic is playing in the NBA Finals for the first time, but he is looking for his second ring.

The two-time NBA MVP led the Denver Nuggets to the NBA Finals this year and has been dominant throughout the playoffs. The Nuggets’ first-ever Finals spot was clinched with a sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, and they are now four wins away from their first championship.

Jokic has made headlines for his postseason looks in addition to his scoring, rebounding, and passing. He wore a Peaky Blinders-style outfit before one game, and his kicks continued a tribute to his wife.

Throughout the 2022-23 season, Jokic has been wearing his wedding band on his sneakers. Consider the following examples:

Jokic claims he stole the custom of always keeping his family at his side from a Serbian colleague.

Natalija, Jokic’s high school love, will marry him in October 2020. They met in Sombor, Serbia, and their romance has now moved to Denver. Ognjena, the couple’s first child, was born in September 2021.

Natalika and Ognjena aren’t Jokic’s only family members that back him. His brothers, Nemanja and Strahinja, have risen to prominence in recent years, and they have a grudge towards the Nuggets’ Finals opponent.

In November 2021, the older siblings went after Marcus Morris Sr. on Twitter after their star brother shoved then-Heat forward and Marcus’ twin, Markieff Morris, on the floor during a game in Denver. Markieff Morris missed 58 consecutive games due to whiplash, and Jokic was suspended for one game for the incident.

Jokic will have his family on his kicks and in the seats when the Nuggets take on the Heat in Game 1 at Ball Arena on Thursday.
