For the first time this season, Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo took part in the team’s training session on Monday. During the Red Devils’ 23–24 pre-season in the United States, the 18-year-old suffered an ankle injury against Real Madrid. Since then, the teen star has focused on her recovery and appears to be getting closer to reaching full fitness.
A video of Mainoo training at Carrington with his teammates before Tuesday’s Champions League group match against Galatasaray was shared on social media by famous journalist Andy Mitten.
His return is a huge boost for manager Erik ten Hag whose side has been beleaguered by several injury woes in recent months and weeks.
Argentina international defender Lisandro Martinez has joined the likes of Luke Shaw, Amad Diallo Traore, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the treatment table and is set to be ruled out for months.
It is unclear if Mainoo will play tomorrow, but if he is healthy and ready to go, he should be given the get-ahead to play on Saturday in the Premier League against Brentford. The midfield player made his league debut as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over Leicester City in February after making his competitive debut in January 2023 with a start in the 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton Athletic.
Mainoo is considered to be one of the most talented graduates from the Man United academy in recent years, and many believe he will go on to become a Premier League star in the future. Given their present dismal performance in the league, the struggling Red Devils are in desperate need of a hero, and the young player will be eager to fulfill his quota and turn around their on-field fortunes.
