Nikola Jokic backs in Denver in ‘quiet & boring’ status

Nikola Jokic addressed the media on Monday while wearing his Denver jersey for the first time since the Nuggets won the NBA Championship less than three months ago. The NBA Finals MVP is back in Colorado, ready for his team’s training camp and title defense, but like most of us, he hopes summer could last a little longer.

When asked by a reporter if the last few months have been the most fun he’s ever had following the end of an NBA season, being back in his country of Serbia as a champion, he replied, “I think it’s actually the opposite.”

Reporters, who are used to unusual (and usually brief) comments from the humble center, laughed.

“Because we played … extra months so we’re recovering and everything,” he replied.

Jokic spoke to reporters moments after the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat in Game 5 at Ball Arena, expressing disappointment that he wouldn’t be able to return to his birthplace of Sombor for a few more days due to the title parade. He ended up enjoying the parade a lot, and when he returned home, he went straight to his favorite horse racing track.

Unlike in previous offseasons, Jokic rested his body while his Serbian national team competed in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. They still won silver, and Jokic was happy to give his teammate Jamal Murray a hard time on Monday’s podium about how his team defeated Canada (without Murray, who also sat out) in the international tournament.

Jokic also spoke fondly of another player, Aaron Gordon, who paid him a visit in Serbia this summer.

“He asked if I could stay another day. “Of course, I said.” Jokic stated. “We didn’t do anything extraordinary. He’d only been with me for a few days. We worked out a few of times. Racetrack. Lakehouse. Life is quiet and uninteresting.”

Gordon also spoke to reporters on Monday, and he stated his session with the Joker was anything from boring.

“The vacation to Sombor was fantastic… “Experiencing his way of life was cool,” Gordon added. “It’s just a lovely town.” His way of life is just fantastic. And I understand why he wants to get out of here.”

Gordon commended the city’s layout and food before saying that the people of Sombor “were most interested in my dreadlocks.”

The Nuggets’ preseason games begin on October 10th, following their preseason training.
