After losing to Germany in the FIBA World Cup this offseason, the United States men’s basketball team was a hot topic of discussion.
The team has been renowned as a juggernaut, winning gold at the Olympics from 1992 until 2020, with the exception of 2004, when Team USA took bronze in Athens.
However, as in Athens, the team did not bring its “A” squad to this World Cup.
Many of America’s greatest players, like Suns small forward Kevin Durant, were disappointed with the bronze medal.
Durant was asked briefly during Suns media day on Monday if he would be interested in playing for Team USA if asked.
“I will play in the Olympics next year,” Durant stated.
The Suns small forward has been out for extended periods of time due to major ailments, including an MCL sprain (2016-17) and an Achilles tear during the 2019 NBA Finals.
Despite being 35 years old, the superstar and many other NBA stars have offered their support.
When asked if he was interested, current and 2020 Olympic teammate Devin Booker responded similarly.
“I’ll do it,” responded Booker.
During the league’s media day on Monday, other stars, including Golden State Warriors Steph Curry, expressed interest in playing for Team USA.
“I’d like to be playing.” It’s the one thing I’ve never done… I will undoubtedly attend. “I definitely want to be a part of the team,” Curry stated.
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers expressed interest as well, stating he would not have to do much with such a talented group.
