Liverpool eyeing São Paulo ‘wonderful’ defender as Joe Gomez question might be answered

Liverpool is reportedly interested in teenage Sao Paulo center defender Lucas Beraldo.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Jol Matip are 32 years old, and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will most sure be considering succession plans for the duo in the coming years, with Matip set to be the first to leave when his contract ends next summer. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté are both prone to injury.

According to 90MIN, Liverpool is interested in signing Beraldo, who is also being pursued by Bayern Munich, Lyon, and Monaco. Beraldo, 19, has evolved as one of So Paulo’s greatest players in recent years, and the Brazilian club will have to struggle to keep him.

90MIN understands that Wolves had a proposal for Beraldo rejected by So Paulo during the summer transfer window, and that Liverpool will keep a watch on his growth in the coming months.

Beraldo fits the type of current center backs in that he is skilled with the ball at his feet and can maintain control. This season, he has appeared 14 times for So Paulo, scoring one. He was also chosen for the Brazilian U20s.
