The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that left winger Samuel Savoie underwent a successful procedure in Minnesota on Sunday to repair his right femur.
The group anticipates a full recovery from him.
With 2:24 left in the second period of a game on Saturday, the young forward attempted to stop and grab a puck in the attacking zone but instead stumbled into the boards. Savoie, who was favoring his right leg, yelled in agony. Stretched off the ice, he was removed.
Savoie gave a thumbs-up to the crowd before heading off the ice, fist-bumping a number of Blackhawks and Wild players.
In his preseason debut, Savoie skated for a mere ninety minutes before being helped off the rink by stretchers.
Picked 81st overall in 2022, Savoie, who is only 19 years old, just finished the regular season with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL with a career-high 26 goals and 59 points. Savoie, who plays for Gatineau, has 46 goals and 101 points in 151 major junior games.
Savoie has a persistent style of playing. Savoie, who is said to be a diligent forward with a lot of enthusiasm on the ice, has already demonstrated some of that during exhibition play. The winger’s ability to skate has been seen as a strength that helps him efficiently forecheck opposition defenders and gain inside positioning during board battles.
With a $878,333 cap hit, Savoie is in the first year of a three-year entry-level contract. Savoie is anticipated to return to Gatineau after he regains his eligibility to play.
