It is believed that Arsenal will add to their attacking options in January, as Pedro Neto continues to put his name on the market after a string of impressive games at Wolves.
Arsenal is still interested in Pedro Neto, but the fact that he is becoming more important at Wolves will make it harder to make a deal this winter.
The Gunners have always liked the 23-year-old, who has made a big impression on both Mikel Arteta and Edu, the sports director since he first came to the Premier League with Wolves in 2019.
Neto, who is managed by super-agent Jorge Mendes, says he supports Arsenal. This summer, Molineux officials were asked to make a transfer offer, but they were turned down right away. Ever since the summer of 2022, Arsenal has been interested in Neto, but they couldn’t make the move because Wolves wanted so much money for him.
Now that Neto has had a great start to the season under Gary O’Neil, his price is rising again. Before this weekend’s Premier League games, Neto and Mohamed Salah had the joint-most assists in the league with four. Only Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka (19) had made more big chances (18) than the young Portuguese star.
Neto made Wolves his long-term home when he signed a rich new deal in March 2022 that will keep him there until the summer of 2027. Arsenal’s attack isn’t very strong right now because Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard were hurt recently. Gabriel Jesus also hasn’t been able to get back to the form he had before his knee injury at the World Cup last season, so Arsenal may look to add to their forward line in January.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney is another real target being thought about. Neto, on the other hand, is highly respected and can play on either wing, which is a big reason why Arsenal is interested. It’s interesting that Arsenal tried to sign Neto, a great dribbler when Arsene Wenger was in charge at Braga in 2017 before he moved to Lazio.
Now, it looks like he’s essential to Wolves, and their chances this season are already looking good after a rough start. Neto scored his first goal of the season in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Luton. He had been great in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool before that.
Boss O’Neil is happy with Neto’s work so far since taking over as manager at Molineux from Julen Lopetegui.
“He’s been amazing the whole time I’ve been here, six or seven weeks,” O’Neil said. “I’m really happy with where Pedro is.” For me, he has been like this for the last six weeks: he has given everything and had a big moment of quality at Luton.
