The release of audio from Liverpool’s game against Tottenham Hotspur, according to Jamie Carragher, is further evidence that the officials “completely froze” and “panicked.”
On Tuesday night, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited published audio recordings of exchanges between match officials regarding Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal. Following the controversy in the first half of their 2-1 defeat, Liverpool requested the audio from the referees’ body.
The Reds were enraged by the occurrence, which was the latest humiliating moment for PGMOL and its use of VAR technology. The goal was called out for offside after a short VAR review, and the game was restarted, but replays clearly showed Tottenham defender Cristian Romero playing Diaz onside.
Carragher stated on Monday Night Football that the officials responsible for mistakenly confirming the decision to prohibit Diaz’s “panicked” and “froze” when they realized their mistake. And, in response to the audio’s release, the former Reds defender believes the recordings bolster his case.
Gary Neville takes aim at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp requests a rematch with Tottenham.
Gary Neville has accused Liverpool of claiming “defeat from victory” after Jurgen Klopp stated that his team’s match against Tottenham Hotspur should be replayed.
The Liverpool manager recommended today that his team’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur, which they lost 2-1, be replayed due to the controversial decision to rule Luis Diaz’s goal offside. Members of the VAR crew incorrectly ruled out the Colombia international’s effort after failing to overturn the on-field decision.
The Reds requested the audio recordings officially on Monday, and their request was granted on Tuesday afternoon, with the PGMOL making it public on Tuesday night. In addition, the PGMOL described the call as a “significant human error” shortly following the game.
And, speaking before of Liverpool’s Europa League match against Union SG on Thursday night at Anfield, Klopp stated that Saturday’s game should be replayed since “something like this has never happened.” However, in response to Klopp’s allegations, Neville stated that the Reds must accept that they were on the wrong end of a judgment and move on.
