When Giannis Antetokounmpo took the stage for the Milwaukee Bucks’ media day on Monday, he had yet to consider sharing the court with Damien Lillard. Lillard had only been a Bucks player for four days and had arrived in Milwaukee less than 48 hours before Antetokounmpo spoke.
At that moment, Antetokounmpo could only talk about hypothetical ideas and how things appeared in his thoughts, rather than how it felt on the floor with his new seven-time All-NBA colleague running the show at point guard.
Antetokounmpo spoke with reporters for the first time since media day on Saturday, with the Bucks’ preseason opener against the Chicago Bulls less than 24 hours away. During the 20-minute chat, he didn’t need much urging from reporters.
Antetokounmpo’s ideas that appeared far-fetched less than a week ago became a reality at his 11th training camp in Milwaukee. For the first time outside of an All-Star Game, he is sharing the court with someone as accomplished as he has been in the NBA: a player capable of captaining a top-10 offense on a yearly basis.
