Hincapié & Inácio – Jürgen Klopp ‘considers $64m move’ in January transfer window

Liverpool could only draw its final encounter before the international break with Brighton. Manchester City losing two consecutive Premier League games is unusual, but Jürgen Klopp’s team has not fully capitalized.

Of course, this was due in part to the massive VAR error that proved decisive in the game against Spurs last weekend. It was also due in part to Liverpool’s inability to win on the south coast this weekend.

When Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead, it appeared that the Reds would go on to win. But that never happened, and Lewis Dunk’s equalizer for Brighton was well-deserved.

Ibrahima Konaté was penalized for giving away a ridiculous set-piece on the edge of the box, and Andy Robertson could have done more to cut out Pascal Groß’s ball into a hazardous position.

Defensively, Liverpool appeared the weakest, with Alexis MacAllister not really being a holding midfielder and the center-backs looking a bit stretched on occasion, so it’s no surprise that two defenders are reportedly being lined up.

Here’s Liverpool.com’s take on the latest transfer rumors swirling around the Reds.

Piero Hincapié

Piero Hincapié’s agent, speaking to journalist Ben Jacobs (and reported by the reporter on Twitter/X), clarified comments he made concerning Liverpool’s interest in his player.

“I was directly asked about Liverpool’s interest in Piero Hincapié, and of course they like him, but I never said they made a serious offer or will do so in January,” said the representative of the Ecuadorian player. “Lots of clubs are looking at him because he’s a young and interesting talent but he is focused on Leverkusen for now.”

According to Liverpool.com, Hincapié is a player to keep an eye on for the Reds. He has a lot of tempting traits, but it remains to be seen how the Reds will go about finding a replacement for Jol Matip, whose current contract expires at the end of the season.

Gonçalo Inácio

According to Football Insider, Liverpool could make a January approach for Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio, who has a $64 million (£52 million/€60 million) release clause. According to the article, it will only happen if there are’more injuries’ in the backline before then.

Virgil van Dijk has been suspended this season, and Ibrahima Konaté has been injured for a short time before returning. Matip and Joe Gomez have been healthy thus far, and Jarell Quansah has performed admirably when called upon.
