As his first-team exile continues, Jadon Sancho is ready to be offered a career lifeline away from Manchester United.
The burden on United and manager Erik ten Hag was relieved in spectacular fashion on Saturday, when Scott McTominay scored twice in injury time to seal a 2-1 victory over Brentford. But Sancho was not among them, having been barred from playing since his public fight with the Dutch manager last month.
The drama began when the 23-year-old was left out of the matchday squad against Arsenal last month, with Ten Hag later blaming it on the player’s poor training efforts. Sancho responded on social media, claiming he was being used as a’scapegoat’ for the club’s problems.
And, having failed to apologize subsequently, it looks that the England international, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in the summer of 2021, has no way back. He was linked with a return to the German club at first, but Serie A now appears to be his most likely destination.
According to the Sun, Juventus intends to offer the player a loan contract in January, with a permanent move planned for next summer. Given the 23-year-old’s lack of influence over the last two years, the rumored £60 million cost would still represent a hefty return for United.
The Italian titans would initially offer to pay half of his weekly salary at £350,000. Ten Hag will undoubtedly be eager to get the player off the books, considering that his summer spending was restricted by FFP requirements.
Sancho completed four years with Dortmund, scoring 50 goals in 137 games. His impressive performances in the postponed Euro 2020 competition encouraged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to bring him to Old Trafford in a high-profile deal, but he struggled to replicate his best form in his first two seasons in Manchester.
The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in January appeared to open the door for additional opportunities, but he could only come on as a late substitute in the League Cup final victory over Newcastle. His international career has also come to a halt, with Gareth Southgate ignoring him for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Following their 2-0 win over Torino, Juventus now sit third in Serie A. And their squad depth has been hurt by Paul Pogba’s failed drug test, which has resulted in a four-year sentence.
