Prior to Dominik Szoboszlai’s arrival at Anfield, certain Liverpool players were “content to remain on the bench,” according to him.
Szoboszlai, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £60 million in the summer, has quickly established himself on Merseyside, assisting on two goals and two goals in 14 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The Hungarian international is an integral component of a midfield reshuffle that has thus far been fruitful, including the contributions of Alexis MacAllister and Ryan Gravenberch.
Szoboszlai stated on the Hungarian podcast Premier Leak that he wouldn’t have it any other way, as he performs most effectively when he is in the lineup. Szoboszlai has appeared in every minute of the Premier League thus far.
However, the 23-year-old also disclosed the shocking truth that there were players at Liverpool who were more than content to observe from the sidelines prior to his arrival.
“Everyone desires to be a member of the starting XI; that is normal and proper; that should be the objective of every team,” he elaborated.
“Who finds sitting on the bench repugnant?” In all honesty, I must admit that there are a few.
“In fact, there were some [at Liverpool] prior to my arrival.” It was mentioned to me, but I will not name names.
“I personally desire to participate in each game, notwithstanding any slight fatigue I may be feeling.
“Anything, including the national team, the FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League, or Premier League.”
“I am in peak condition when I am available to play on Thursday and Sunday; I am in good condition when I am constantly needed.
“Because that would eliminate the need for continuous training, recovery, concentration, match, recovery, match, and so forth; this is ideal for me.”
Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Roberto Firmino all departed the club in the summer. Since he is unlikely to be disparaging his current teammates, we assume Szoboszlai is referring to one or more of those players.
