ESPN reported on Friday that forward Luis Suarez is expected to join the Major League Soccer club prior to the upcoming season, indicating that Inter Miami is proceeding with their Barcelona reunion plan.
Lionel Messi was acquired by Miami earlier this year, and former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba joined him in his new club.
Suarez scored a goal in Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Juventus in the 2015 UEFA Champions League final in Berlin, which was attended by all four starters.
At present, Suarez, age 36, is a member of the Brazilian top division’s Gremio squad. During his time in Europe with Ajax (2007-11), Liverpool (2011-14), Barcelona (2014-20), and Atletico Madrid (2020-22), the Uruguayan international attained international renown.
Twenty-two years after his return to his childhood club, Nacional of Montevideo, he relocated to Gremio this year. Suarez, according to ESPN, will transfer from Gremio to Miami at the conclusion of the Brazilian season in December.
Suarez amassed 147 goals in 191 appearances for Barcelona, following 81 goals and 69 goals in 110 contests for Ajax and Liverpool, respectively.
In addition, he holds the record for most goals scored by Uruguay in 137 appearances (68). Moreover, he represented his nation in four World Cups.
Suarez, who is notorious for his unsportsmanlike conduct, has bit opponents on the field three times in addition to his prolific output in front of the goals.
Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, advanced to the final of the U.S. Open Cup and won the League Cup this summer. Nonetheless, the group was eliminated from the MLS playoffs.
