Concerning Ten Hag’s future, rumors circulated prior to the loss to Newcastle suggesting that the Glazers and potential new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe agreed that Ten Hag was the best manager for the position.
Following Newcastle’s defeat, Ten Hag stated the following about his role:
“So I am a fighter and I know it is not always going to go up and we have a lot of setbacks this season. But also you have to deal with it and that is never an excuse.
I have said that before. I know when there are setbacks but even then you have to get results. Sunday [and] tonight was far from that so we have to do things right at a certain level, the minimum level to win games.”
Since then, though, rumors have suggested that the Dutchman is “thin ice,” with Zinedine Zidane and Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP being mentioned as two possible successors to Ten Hag
Romano has been sharing updates on Man Utd’s manager from “club sources” on X in the past 48 hours. These sources have refuted rumors that the team is looking for a new manager:
“Manchester United deny any idea or contact to replace Erik ten Hag with new head coach. Club sources guarantee stories on new manager are ‘categorically false’.”
After leading the team into the top four, winning the EFL Cup, and reaching the FA Cup final in his first season in charge, one could argue that Ten Hag still has some credibility at Old Trafford.
But as you can see from the image above, there have already been some setbacks this time around, making it difficult. The club may therefore be obliged to make changes if current circumstances persist, but for the time being, they appear to be firmly behind Ten Hag in the hopes that he can turn things around.
