Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 6-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, and it would appear that Pep Guardiola has discovered another gem in winger Jeremy Doku.
Doku, who was acquired from Rennes for $68 million during the offseason, has been forced to wait for playing time on a City squad loaded with stars.
Nevertheless, during the encounter against Bournemouth at Etihad Stadium, he showcased his abilities by producing four goals and scoring one, thereby providing the defending champions with a temporary lead at the top of the standings.
Doku opened the scoring for City in the 30th minute with a goal, and he assisted Bernardo Silva in doubling the lead three minutes later.
In the 37th minute, he believed he had scored his second, but replays revealed the goal-bound shot was deflected off of Manuel Akanji and past Bournemouth goalkeeper Andrei Radu to make the score 3-0.
Doku provided a pass for City substitute Phil Foden to convert the club’s fourth goal of the match in the 64th minute. Additionally, he assisted Silva in converting his second of the match in the 83rd.
Bournemouth substitute Luis Sinisterra offered solace to the visitors in the 74th minute, which separated those two goals.
With a header in the 88th minute, Nathan Ake completed the rout.
With the triumph, City joined Tottenham and Arsenal atop the league standings and improved its home record in all competitions to 100 percent this season.
Arsenal welcomed Newcastle on Saturday evening, requiring a decisive victory in order to surpass City. Chelsea will be the opponent on Monday. Tottenham entered the day in first place in the standings.
