Ryan Gravenberch has mocked Bayern Munich after flourishing in the first-team opportunities that have been bestowed upon him since his transfer to Liverpool.
On September’s transfer deadline day, the Dutchman was acquired for £40 million, completing a quartetth midfield acquisition in 2023. Long admired by Jurgen Klopp, he eventually arrived at Anfield after a difficult season with Bayern in which he was deprived of playing time at the highest level.
By immediately committing to his new endeavor, Gravenberch jeopardized the approval of his nation’s authorities and has since been denied international call-ups at both the senior and under-21 levels. However, this has not been a concern for the Reds, who have benefited immensely from the rejuvenation of the 21-year-old.
He has appeared in eleven competitions to date. He has contributed to four goals in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, including two of his own, and made his full Premier League debut against Everton in last month’s Merseyside derby triumph.
Gravenberch was speaking with Viaplay Sport Nederland at the AXA Training Centre in a recent interview about the confidence his new manager has placed in him in light of the assurances he received prior to his transfer.
“When Klopp called he gave me his plan and in the end it actually went quite quickly after that,” according to him. “I believed that obtaining my opportunities was paramount; that was all that I desired.” “In the end, I’ve obtained the minutes and opportunities I desired.”
The reporter with whom he was conversing at the time inquired, “I suppose that rumor was to some degree accurate at Bayern as well, but does Jurgen Klopp simply keep his word more consistently?”
Gravenberch replied, “In fact, absolutely!” After that, he exclaimed in a sustained fit of laughter.
He was regarded as one of the continent’s brightest prospects during his time at Ajax, where he won the Dutch championship and played extensively under former manager Erik ten Hag.
Following his breakthrough transfer to Germany, Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel sidelined his talents, and he started only six matches in the season, which is the same number of matches he has started in the past two months at Liverpool.
