David de Gea, the former goalkeeper for Manchester United, posted an intriguing remark underneath Bruno Fernandes’ most recent Instagram picture. It appears to be a subtle jab at Roy Keane.
Erik ten Hag’s team beat Fulham in the Premier League thanks to a goal from Fernandes, who has recently come under fire for his management style.
His action comes just a few days after Roy Keane demanded that the 29-year-old midfielder lose his captaincy after United lost the Manchester derby 3-0.
“The first thing I would do – I have to tell you, watching him again – I would definitely take the captaincy off him. 100 per cent,” stated Keane.
“I know it’s a big decision. Obviously, they changed the captaincy with Maguire [but] Fernandes is not captain material.”
Keane “should not be a captain,” according to Sky analyst Jamie Carragher, but Fernandes somewhat silenced his skeptics against Fulham.
Fernandes celebrated United winning all three points on Instagram on Saturday after the final whistle.
And an hour later, his former teammate David de Gea decided to leave a very telling comment on the post. He wrote: “You are not the right captain” followed by a Zipper-Mouth emoji.
His snarky comment received a lot of backlash on social media.
Following his Player of the Match display at Craven Cottage, United manager Erik ten Hag responded to those who had criticized Bruno Fernandes.
Following the final whistle, Ten Hag spoke with TNT Sports and was asked about people who had questioned Fernandes’ captaincy qualities. He said, “I don’t understand it.
So everyone has their mistakes and no-one is perfect. But he is doing a lot of things very good. He shows every time as a captain that he is an example.
As you saw today, how he is working, how he is pressing and then in the end he scores the goal. So he’s massively important for us.”
