Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, is reportedly the newest high-profile target of the Saudi Pro League. He and his entourage are scheduled to meet to discuss a potential transfer.
According to reports, representatives from the Saudi Pro League are interested in meeting with Bruno Fernandes because of his desire to replace Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
When Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January following his contentious departure from United, he set off a chain reaction of well-known celebrities making their way to the Middle East. Since then, players like Riyad Mahrez, Karim Benzema, and Neymar have inked lucrative contracts in Saudi Arabia.
The country’s Public Investment Fund owns Nassr as well as each of their respective clubs, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli. According to Italian writer Rudy Galetti, the fund is already getting ready for the summer transfer window that will open in the coming summer.
He also says they have four teams interested in signing Fernandes, putting him on their target list and planning to get in touch with his representatives to set up a meeting where they may negotiate a deal.
Should it be Nassr, Fernandes will be reunited with Portugal team-mate Ronaldo for club once more. Considering he’s only 29, this would be a huge victory for the PIF.
Nearing the twilight of their careers, players like Ronaldo have made up the majority of their signings. They would probably never be able to work out a deal with Fernandes, though.
Erik ten Hag would very probably not only refuse the relocation, but also obstruct his departure. Last year, he agreed to a new deal that would keep him at Old Trafford through June 2026, with an additional year’s option.
Ten Hag praised his captain after Fernandes scored the game-winning goal for United against Fulham on the weekend. “From the moment I made him captain he did this [win games],” he stated.
“Always when he is playing, he is giving energy and setting the example. And you see the way he is pressing, the way he is counter pressing.
The way he makes recovery runs. He is absolutely the example and he is taking responsibility all the time. On and off the pitch.
He takes responsibility by scoring important goals but also in how he is always wanting the ball and always wanting to create. I’m happy with my captain.”
