Marcus Rashford called out an unauthorized Manchester United fan channel on X, formerly Twitter, for “spreading malicious rumours” about the player’s connection with the team.
Following United’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the derby, the forward for United made the decision to celebrate his birthday by going out to Chinawhite nightclub.
Manager Erik ten Hag called the celebrations were unacceptable: “I spoke with him about it. It’s unacceptable. He apologised and that is it. For us it is an internal matter.”
After leaving the party, the striker had to apologize to Ten Hag, but he insisted that it would be an internal issue.
The team stated that Rashford took a knock during practice and was unable to play in both the weekend’s 1-0 victory against Fulham and the Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle.
The host of The United Stand, an unofficial fan channel with more than two million subscribers, attacked Rashford, saying he “does not buy” that the striker’s absence was caused by a knock, suggesting instead that it was a kind of punishment. The host also questioned the striker’s loyalty to the team.
In response to the video on X, Rashford expressed his outrage by writing, “Please STOP spreading malicious rumours.”
Rashford and the manager had previously argued over an incident involving birthday celebrations. The previous year, Rashford was benched for a Wolves encounter after failing to arrive on time for a meeting; nonetheless, he later scored the game’s winning goal off the bench.
On Sunday, The Daily Mail revealed that Rashford was not present at the lunch held at a Manchester restaurant where several of the players celebrated their victory over Fulham.
