After suffering a hamstring injury, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is unlikely to play until Christmas.
The Brazil international was substituted at halftime of United’s 3-0 League Cup loss to Newcastle last week.
United initially stated that he would be out for “several weeks,” but manager Erik ten Hag provided a more specific timeline for Casemiro’s recovery on Tuesday.
Ten Hag stated ahead of United’s Champions League match against Copenhagen on Wednesday that Casemiro and (Lisandro) Martinez had “really strong injuries” and “don’t expect them back before Christmas.”
Martinez is out for the foreseeable future due to a foot injury.
Between now and Christmas, United has ten games in all competitions and is missing injured defenders Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
“I have some time schedules,” Ten Hag said. “But it’s always difficult to project (recovery times) … because there can always be setbacks during the rehab period.”
United’s roster for Copenhagen also contains Victor Lindelof and Marcus Rashford, who were out from Saturday’s game against Fulham due to illness and a leg problem, respectively, but Ten Hag stated that they were “100%.”
