By way of a tattoo, Dominik Szoboszlai has unveiled an unexpected connection to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
The Hungarian international, who in July transferred from RB Leipzig to Liverpool, elected to don the renowned number eight jersey that Gerrard had previously donning. Szoboszlai elaborated on the significance of the number and his tattoo homage to Gerrard during an interview.
“[There is] no particular reason for this, but it is undeniably an exceptional number; many great players have possessed it.” Furthermore, I have a tattoo that bears the words of Steven Gerrard; the exact date eludes me, but it was previously. Additionally, this factor influenced Szoboszlai’s decision to join the club.
“When I was a child, to be honest, I didn’t watch that much football but of course when it was Champions League or a big game, I was watching Liverpool, the big teams and also the big players — and he was one of the biggest.”
The inscription on the Hungarian tattoo on Szoboszlai’s left arm translates to “Talent is a divine blessing; however, it is ineffectual in the absence of extraordinary determination and modesty.” This profound quotation epitomizes Szoboszlai’s worldview and unwavering commitment to his profession.
The unexpected correlation between Gerrard and Szoboszlai was exposed in a challenge video that was uploaded to Liverpool’s YouTube channel. The video, entitled “Hot or Not,” featured Szoboszlai, Diogo Jota, and Joël Matip evaluating a variety of subjects. When the topic of tattoos was broached, Szoboszlai boastfully disclosed his affiliation with Gerrard via his tattoos.
It began when Jota inquired about the tattoos of his teammate, requesting an explanation as to why he had them.
Szoboszlai responded, “I possess one from Gerrard,” while indicating the quotation affixed to his arm. “You have one from Gerrard?” Jota exclaimed in astonishment, possibly under the impression that Gerrard himself had applied the tattoo.
“Indeed, this one.” “Because it is written in Hungarian, I would give you a lot of money if you could read it,” Szoboszlai chuckled.
