Liverpool is considering signing a 24-year-old who play in the most recent World Cup final

When Jurgen Klopp was finishing up his midfield makeover in the summer, the Reds were connected to Youssouf Fofana. Ultimately, though, the 24-year-old chose to remain in Monaco.

But as the January transfer window approaches, 90min notes that the Premier League is once more showing interest in Fofana.

The Frenchman is reportedly the subject of the greatest attention from Manchester United, although Fofana is also “on their radar” for Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle United.

Not that any of those three have the France international as a high priority. Fofana is supposedly on the lists of both Liverpool and Arsenal, but it doesn’t seem like they are actively seeking a natural No. 6.

The Monaco player’s contract is now set to expire in the summer, but it is rumored that the Principality club is planning to initiate a one-year extension shortly.

Liverpool is examining Fofana.

Supporters of Liverpool would undoubtedly want their team to sign a natural holding midfielder in January.

Even if Klopp’s team has performed admirably thus far this season, that is the one position that seems to have the potential to hinder them.

In that role, Alexis Mac Allister has been performing better than he is being credited with. The Argentine is still playing out of position, though. Higher up the field, he is more beneficial.

Youssouf Fofana, le sauveur de la France ?

That is the location of the renowned Argentina game Mac Allister played in the World Cup final last winter.

Fofana was on the opposing side that day. Although the Frenchman did not start in Doha, he did enter the game during the last twenty-five minutes of extra time.

Mac Allister is more of a passing, technical midfielder, whilst Fofana has a slightly more conventional “destroyer” appearance.

He doesn’t appear to be Liverpool’s top pick. However, given the rumors circulating today, it appears improbable that Andre Trindade will make a move in January, so we’re willing to take a chance on Youssouf.
