After the fantastic victory over Tottenham on Tuesday, the Chelsea team was given the day off, and they were back at Cobham this morning.
After the tumultuous London derby, it was back to the gym and recuperation. In addition, there was the pleasing sight of French international Christopher Nkunku speeding up his recuperation from injury, as he was seen tinkering with a bike next to Raheem Sterling.
During his press conference on Friday, Mauricio Pochettino is probably going to provide an update on Nkunku in order to set the stage for his next challenging assignment: Manchester City.
With confidence from his first career hat-trick, Nicolas Jackson will enter that match. As he adjusts to English football, he already has six goals for Chelsea to his credit.
“I am happy for him because we know that when strikers don’t score, they suffer,” Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino remarked following his treble.”
“He is really young, arrived at the club this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea. It’s the history, winning, lifting trophies. That’s why as a coaching staff we need to provide the tools and be calm with the way we assess things.
The confidence is there and I am so happy for him because he deserves the boost.”
After making his first Premier League start since the opening day, Reece James fared well.
Malo Gusto took over for the captain after he played 77 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He was seen at Cobham, where he was making significant progress toward his goal of starting back-to-back games for the first time this season.
On Sunday, Raheem Sterling will play against his old team. Between 2015 and 2022, the winger made over 300 appearances for Man City and scored 131 goals.
He is in excellent form going into the match and will be itching to defeat his former team for the first time in Chelsea blue.
Conor Gallagher, on the other hand, may still be processing the thrilling Monday night football game based on his statements following the game.
“It was the weirdest game I’ve played in I think,’ said Gallagher. ‘It was the craziest game, but in the end, I’m buzzing with the win, which was all we needed. So it was a strange game but a good one.”
After allowing his countryman Benoit Badiashile to return to action, Axel Disasi will be hopeful that Nkunku, another Frenchman, will soon join him in the starting lineup.
Finally, we have this striking image of Axel and the Chelsea lion that was spray-painted on the gym wall.
