Erik ten Hag of Manchester United may be fired in the upcoming weeks in the wake of a devastating Champions League loss to Copenhagen.
After a terrible 4-3 loss in Denmark, the Red Devils are at bottom of their Champions League group and will need a small miracle to move on to the next round of play. In a seesawing battle that ended with Roony Bardghji, 17, scoring Copenhagen’s only goal in the closing moments of the game, Marcus Rashford was sent off.
Ten Hag is under increasing pressure as Manchester United sits six points outside of the Premier League’s top four, and there are rumors that the Glazers may be about to fire the Dutchman soon.
According to Football Insider, less than 18 months after Ten Hag’s hiring, INEOS billionaire and Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new investor, is expected to relieve Ten Hag of his responsibilities.
Should Ratcliffe get his wish, Roberto De Zerbi, the manager of Brighton, would take over for the former Ajax manager, who won the League Cup in his first season and led United to third place in the standings.
Ratcliffe will be advised by famous manager Sir Alex Ferguson, according to The Sun, to remain with Ten Hag for the time being.
“Erik has Sir Alex’s unwavering support,” According to the report, “He’s been hugely supportive of Erik since he arrived at the club.”
“He’s impressed at the job he is doing and, in particular, the way he has taken on big decisions.
If consulted, that’s a position he would be prepared to make clear to any new investors who come into the football club.”
