Rasmus Hojlund was not at all happy with Diogo Dalot as Manchester United’s chances of making it to the round of 16 in the Champions League were severely damaged.
The incident happened following the second equalizer by the Danish team. Lukas Lerager scored Copenhagen’s third goal in the 83rd minute, tapping in Rasmus Falk’s cross at the back post. According to the replays, Dalot turned off, letting Lerager easily by him and score.
It’s also safe to infer that Hojlund was not happy with his colleague at United. The Manchester Evening News reports that after Copenhagen leveled due to a moment of distraction, Hojlund was seen being “ballistic” towards Dalot.
Shortly after, Roony Bardghji’s goal for Copenhagen changed the course of the encounter and sent United to their third loss in four Champions League games this year. As a result, the Red Devils are now at the bottom of the group and have a long way to go before they can advance to the round of 16.
Hojlund commented following the game: “Yeah, it is disappointing. I thought we started very well to be honest. We controlled the game until the red card and that changed the game.”
At Parken, the Danish international Hojlund scored twice in the first thirty minutes of play, giving the Red Devils a commanding two-goal advantage. However, Marcus Rashford’s straight red card gave Copenhagen a chance to get back into the game.
They made the most of their extra man, scoring twice in quick succession before the break to tie the score with goals from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves for the home team. In the second half, Fernandes gave United another lead from the penalty spot, but two late goals sentenced them to lose.
“I think we switched off a little bit,” Hojlund continued. “We did not think we were going to play a game with 10 men. Of course it is also giving them some belief. I know how the crowd can help the team here and it gave them a big boost.
We also did quite good in the beginning of the second half. We were composed on the ball. We kept switching the ball and then we got the penalty to go in front again. But, it’s unfortunate that we ended up with zero points again.”
