Bruno Fernandes isn’t going to give up on his Champions League dreams

When Bruno Fernandes stated yesterday night that the team atmosphere at Manchester United “is not the best” following yet another “disappointing” loss, he didn’t surprise anyone.

Bruno Fernandes not giving up Champions League hopes

The Reds have only managed to win eight games so far this season, with nine losses, but Friday night’s 4-3 loss to FC Copenhagen jeopardizes our chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

United has just three points from four games, which puts them at the bottom of Group A.

Marcus Rashford’s red card was followed by two goals from Copenhagen in two minutes, leaving the score at 2-2 at the break. The match was eventually won 4-3 by the Danish champions.

After the game, Fernandes was asked by MUTV to comment on the atmosphere in the locker room following such a significant defeat.

“Disappointment,” Fernandes said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I think for everything we did in the game, we could and should have gotten something. It is difficult at the moment, obviously, and the mood is not the best because I think we fought so hard with ten men that even from then on it was playing against a team that plays really well on the ball, and as a part of that, many decisions went against us.

Today was a tough day but I think the team effort was good. We tried. We could have done some things better, but it was difficult for us from thirty minutes on, playing with one player less.”

Fernandes insists United have not given up their hopes of qualifying for the round of 16, but they will need positive results against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

The Portugal international added: “Even before this game, that was still the belief: to win the last three games of the group stage. And now we have to. We have to win them. If we want to stay in the Champions League and stay in the best competition, we have to win against the best.

We have a really tough game away against Galatasaray and after we play against the top of the group. We want to win both, but now we have to focus on Luton, because it is going to be a tough game again. We need three points in the league and we need to get back to the winning track after this defeat.”
