Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund are both doubts for Denmark’s games over the international break, according to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Both Danes were substituted in the second half of the 1-0 triumph over Luton Town, with another Scandinavian, Victor Lindelof, scoring the game’s only goal.

Eriksen stumbled badly, while Hojlund remained following treatment but was replaced by Anthony Martial as the Reds held on for three points.

Denmark will play vital European Championship qualifiers against Slovenia (Friday, November 17) and Northern Ireland (Monday, November 20) later this month in order to qualify for the championships in Germany.

Northern Ireland will be missing Jonny Evans, and it is unclear whether his teammates will be able to play in Belfast, with Denmark presently second in Group H.

“In this moment, I can’t tell anything about it because I don’t know,” Ten Hag remarked at a press conference when questioned about Hojlund’s situation. “We do an assessment and we have to wait 24 hours for the conclusion. So we’ll give the medical team 24 hours to see what the problem is, if there is a problem.

You don’t want to miss any player. There’s also Christian Eriksen. That is our season at this moment – we have so many injuries. But, therefore, you have a squad. We have talked about it many times. But, of course, the routine levels are dropping down, the routine levels in the team, in the way of playing. But, hopefully, players are coming back and those new injuries are not too bad.”

When asked about it, Eriksen replied: “He slipped but it’s the same – we have to do the assessment, set the diagnosis, set the conclusion and then we’ll know where we are.”

When questioned specifically by Bein Sports if the pair would have to withdraw from the Denmark squad, Erik said it was too early to tell.

“It could be,” he admitted. “But I can’t give now a good assessment. We have to wait and then see what the conclusion is.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was unable to play against Luton owing to sickness, but there is hope that Luke Shaw and Amad may return shortly.

“I think so and we get one or two back,” Ten Hag remarked of the period following the break. “And, hopefully, it’s not too bad with Hojlund and Eriksen.”
