Grammy Award winner, Burna Boy moved into a seven-bedroom home in Lagos, Nigeria’s center of the arts and commerce, at the start of 2020. In order for Burna to live alone, his architect, Akose Enebeli, created a two-story mansion in Lekki.
Burna was “mind blown” and had multiple homes all over the world when he saw Enebeli’s plans for his own new house in the not-too-distant future. Rapper, composer, and vocalist Burna is well-known in Nigeria. Enebeli tells AD, “He just kept saying, ‘Wow, wow, you’re bursting my brain.'”
Enebeli’s layout creates a tranquil 13,000 square foot haven within the hectic 20 million-person megacity of Lagos. With a calm façade of gray and beige, the massive structure is furnished with all the conveniences of contemporary luxury living. Inside, it has a game area, lounges, a personal theater, and high ceilings. There are also plenty of garage spaces and tall windows.
Enebeli and his team planned the 3,700 square foot structure, which is divided into two distinct portions, to optimize natural light.
One portion houses guest artist rooms, a gym, and a recording studio. The other is a more personal area for Burna. It has his private terrace, his main bedroom suite, and the area where his closest friends congregate.
Since there are no doors between the rooms on the lower level, they are one continuous, open space where one interior flows into the next. Notable is the main living area, which leads to a large window overlooking the well-kept gardens.
About 384 miles away, in the Port Harcourt area of Nigeria’s Rivers State, is where Burna was born. The tranquillity of the lagoons, creeks, and local vegetation are evoked by the compound as a whole. “I have a lot of Rivers stuff, water noises,” says Burna. That’s all; it’s heavily inspired by water. It is calm. I can communicate with nature.
All-white walls were the ideal for the interior of the property. The massive golden insect pieces, the female bust, the marble sculpture of a half-horse, and the Throne of Grace in Lagos were all acquired by Burna. Atelier 225 created the artwork featuring the bicycles.
