Following Manchester City’s 4-4 draw with Chelsea in a gloriously entertaining Premier League match on Sunday, Pep Guardiola issued a peculiar jab at Arsenal.
The west Londoners continued to fight back, and former City playmaker Cole Palmer equalized from the penalty spot five minutes into stoppage time to split the points on the capital. The Citizens had held the lead three times at Stamford Bridge.
As a consequence, Guardiola’s squad maintains a one-point lead over Liverpool, who are positioned second and have surpassed Arsenal on goal differential. The Spaniard has now alluded to the fact that both the Reds and the Gunners encountered difficulties when playing away from home against the Blues, peculiarly criticizing the latter’s performance in their 2-2 draw last month.
“They are an incredible team; they are so dangerous,” Guardiola told Sky Sports in reference to Chelsea. “Liverpool was far, far superior to Arsenal, yet they were unable to triumph over them; ultimately, Arsenal drew.”
“The supporters are invested in Chelsea’s away performance, so I will refrain from discussing the team’s current accomplishments. It is improving, and the opponents they face are formidable.
“They have physicality, they have talent, they have speed, they have bench, they have a lot of things.” Guardiola’s remarks possibly demonstrate how far Arsenal have progressed in recent years, as he now evidently views them as a title contender.
The former manager of Bayern Munich and Barcelona previously lauded Mikel Arteta’s squad after easily defeating them, including a 5-0 victory when the two clubs met about two years ago. However, the north London club prevailed over City this season, prevailing 1-0 at the Emirates on a deflected Gabriel Martinelli goal last month.
