Dalot withdraws from Portugal squad

Manchester United defender, Diogo Dalot has pulled out of Portugal’s team for their next two Euro 2024 qualifying matches.

Roberto Martinez’s team has already guaranteed their spot in the championship game for the next year. They have won all eight games in Group J, with a goal differential of 32-2.

Traveling to Liechtenstein on Thursday and playing at home against Iceland on Sunday present a chance to finish unbeaten in this division and gain momentum before the major tournament in Germany.

Following discussions with coach Martinez, Dalot was let go for individual reasons. Joao Mario, a youthful right-back from Porto, was drafted in and is about to make his debut for his senior country.

Bruno Fernandes, Diogo’s club colleague, is still included in the team as the United captain aims to add to his 18 goals and 61 caps for his country.

Dalot has made 17 appearances for United this season and has received 16 caps for Portugal. After his incredible game-winning goal against Sheffield United, he was chosen as our October Goal of the Month.

During this time, the defender has also made four appearances for his country’s side, which has easily qualified and kept three clean sheets.
