Liverpool’s resounding 3-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield on Sunday greatly pleased me. When I think back on the game, there were a lot of good things. After a challenging season in the previous campaign, I believe Virgil van Dijk produced his greatest game of the year and is now back to his best.

He was aware that the previous season wasn’t his greatest and that he battled. To his credit, though, it’s inevitable to have an injury as severe as the one he suffered a few years ago. You inevitably get lost for a little while.

Given that responsibility, he’s likely been able to regain the kind of form that saw Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League all those years ago.
