Liverpool striker Luis Díaz and his father reunited for first time after kidnapping

After being kidnapped by a rebel group in Colombia for a whole twelve days, Luis Diaz was reunited with his father and has since paid homage to the influence of religion.

The father of the Liverpool forward, Luis Diaz Manuel, was abducted in his native country on October 28 together with his spouse, Clienis Marulanda.

Mrs. Marulanda was discovered shortly after the abduction, having been ambushed at a nearby gas station; however, Mr. Diaz was not released until last Thursday, following an intervention by the United Nations and the Catholic Church.

After a difficult few weeks for the Diaz family, Reds’ No. 7 was reunited with his father in heartwarming photos that were made public on Tuesday. Prior to Colombia’s World Cup qualifying later this month, Diaz had made his first trip back to his home nation.

Tuesday night, Diaz posted on Instagram, saying, “Thank you God for allowing us to be together as a family.”

While his father was still being searched for in his native country, the 26-year-old was unable to attend Liverpool’s games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth. But earlier this month, in a 1-1 draw with Luton Town, the attacker returned to scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s team when he connected with Harvey Elliott’s cross to score an equalizer in the 97th minute.

Speaking following his release last week, Mr. Diaz stated that despite being abducted, he has “faith” that the Colombian government will give him and his family “security” in the La Guajira region and that he has no plans to leave the town of Barrancas.
