Manchester United’s star on his Foundation’s work in Cameroon: ‘When you reach a certain level you must help those in need’

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana considers his foundation in Cameroon to be an obligation given his position in the game.

In an interview with Cameroonian news outlet Camer.be, the 27-year-old explained why he believes that successful athletes like himself should give back to others who are less fortunate in the world.

This month, Nerazzurri goalkeeper Onana has been in Cameroon with his foundation.

The former Ajax player established his foundation to support youngsters in collaboration with a Spanish NGO. The foundation’s goal is to provide surgeries to people who need them but can’t get them or afford them.

For Onana, this is motivated by a desire to put his accomplishments to good use.

Onana explained that “We had our first campaign as a foundation in 2017.”

“The foundation is already six years old,” he noted. “Our goal is to help those in the greatest need.”

The United keeper noted that “I myself benefited. I’m also the product of a foundation.”

“I also think of it as a way to reach out to my younger brothers, my cadets,” Onana said. “I come from an average family.”

“And when you get to a certain level, you have a duty to help those in need, as our elders do.”
