According to Record, Manchester United is sure they want to sign Joao Neves, a player for Benfica, after doing a lot of research on him this year.
Last season was the 19-year-old’s big break with the Primeira Liga giants, and since then he has become a key player in the middle of the field.
Record say that United has been “constantly observing” his play and that they most recently saw him in the Lisbon derby, where they called him “the star of the game.”
Now, Manchester United is sure they want to sign him, but they might have to pay €100 million to get him out of his deal with Benfica because they are not in a hurry to sell.
Neves has what it takes to become a great defensive midfielder.
The young player has come a long way with Benfica in the past year, and he is now one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe.
As well as on the right wing, Neves can play in different middle spots. However, he plays mostly as a defensive midfielder. This season, he has a 91% catch rate when throwing.
He has also done a great job on defense, making 2.4 stops and winning 7.3 duels per game, which is very impressive. 71% of the times the Portuguese player has dribbled this season, he has finished the move.
The young player has what it takes to become a great playmaker one day. We think United should move quickly to sign him so they don’t have to deal with any other teams.
The club’s Financial Fair Play situation makes a January deal unlikely, but that could change if Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to make a big investment now that he has a minority share in United.
Ratcliffe is likely to take over running the club’s sports business from the Glazers.
