Mohamed Salah has had an outstanding season for Liverpool. He could potentially break his goal total for the Reds.

Mohamed Salah has already scored ten Premier League goals. He has 12 points in 16 games across all competitions. In other words, the Egyptian is on fire and prospering for Liverpool on all levels.

It’s all very reminiscent of his rookie season with the Reds. Salah came into the season on fire, scoring all 38 games and smashing the Premier League goalscoring record. A record that stood until last season, when Erling Haaland of Manchester City smashed it – the only player now higher in the Premier League scoring charts.

So, given current form, what are his prospects of breaking his Reds record?

Salah has already played little more than 31% of his Premier League games this season. His ten goals also put him 31% of the way to a 32-goal season. So he’s actually on the correct track right now.

However, it’s worth mentioning that Salah ‘only’ had nine goals at the 12-game mark in that 2017/18 season, thus he’s now surpassing that campaign in terms of goals. However, it is clear that this is not the case.

Salah scored 11 goals in his first 12 Premier League games of the season. He ignited that one and was perhaps the best player on the planet for the first half of the season, with many considering him for the Ballon d’Or.

Salah, on the other hand, went overseas with Egypt for the AFCON that season, reaching the final. It definitely took a toll on him, and he didn’t return to Liverpool in the same shape.

After returning, the attacker scored just six goals in the Premier League, finishing the season with 23. While that is still the second-most for Liverpool, it was far from what the first half of the season promised.

So, while Salah is on track to shatter Liverpool’s Premier League goal record once more, the 2021/22 season teaches us not to get too excited. Especially since he will be representing Egypt in AFCON in the coming year.
