Liverpool sent four players to the international arena on Thursday, and they all gave very impressive displays.
Liverpool’s international players on Thursday included Mohamed Salah, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. The guys for the Reds enjoyed a productive evening.
The Liverpool attacker broke the record and became his country’s best scorer in World Cup qualifying with four goals in a row during Egypt’s 6-0 victory over Djibouti. By doing this, Salah surpassed Mohamed Aboutreika’s record of 14 goals in 25 World Cup qualifying games.
In the interim, Szoboszlai contributed to Hungary’s historic 2-2 tie with Bulgaria. The Reds midfielder played the full ninety minutes as Hungary continued their winning record in Group G and proceeded to the Euro 2024 finals in Sofia. In a dominant effort, he also blasted in the delivery that set up the exciting equalizer in the 97th minute.
Hungary was behind going into the latter minutes of the match after goals from Kiril Despodov and Spas Delev for Bulgaria overturned their early lead. Martin Adam’s head collided with Szoboszlai’s free kick in the tenth minute, giving Bulgaria the lead.
However, that occurred prior to defender Alex Petkov scoring his own goal in injury time late in the second half.
In a different game, Jota started on the left side of a four-man midfield as Joao Cancelo and Cristiano Ronaldo scored goals to help Portugal defeat Liechtenstein 2-0.
This season, the Liverpool forward has already netted eight goals for the Reds. He ended with a weight-perfect ball that the Al Nassr front quickly finished, setting up Ronaldo’s first goal.
After the victory, Portugal—now coached by Roberto Martinez—joined just two teams in the world with a flawless qualification record before the European Championships in Germany the following summer.
Endo was not used as a substitute in Japan’s 5-0 victory over Myanmar at the Panasonic Stadium. Former Reds midfielder Takumi Minamino led the Samurai Blue to victory with two assists.
In just four minutes, Luis Díaz scored a double to give Brazil a boost. His father, who was just freed after being abducted for 12 days, witnessed everything from the stands and broke down in tears. Lucho gave him the two goals as a gift. Shouts, tears, and a near-fatal emotional breakdown.
Nunez was a terrific Uruguayan player. Uruguay’s victory was sealed by the 24-year-old striker for Liverpool, who had three shots and one goal.
