Mbappe Kylian to Liverpool? An important ally of Jurgen Klopp’s will be vital to the transfer

As the French sensation approaches the last six months of his contract, Kylian Mbappe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is still far from certain.

In six months, Kylian Mbappe is expected to be the world’s most sought-after free agent, but only if Liverpool have their way.

The French player, who enraged Paris Saint-Germain over the summer by refusing to sign a one-year extension, is about to enter the last six months of his current contract. Mbappe was benched during the preseason but was quickly brought back into PSG’s starting lineup for the Ligue 1 season. Despite this, he has scored goals this season with another impressive campaign thus far, though there is growing concern about his long-term future.

Liverpool may now begin their own pursuit after it was revealed earlier this month that the 24-year-old’s refusal to press for a move in recent years has led to Real Madrid, his “dream club,” eventually losing interest in signing him. Since January, Mbappe is free to negotiate with other teams, but according to Spanish reports, Jurgen Klopp’s team is now leading the pack.

Liverpool does not have the unique edge Real Madrid does, though that might alter if they choose to revive their long-standing interest. That’s because Mbappe’s mother is a valuable ally of the Reds that will play a significant role in determining Mbappe’s future.

His agent, Fayza Lamari, says he “loves” Liverpool and has had conversations with Anfield executives in the past. “We talked a little bit, but not too much,” Mbappe revealed to the Telegraph last year.

“We talked a little bit. I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her! It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Of course, the feeling is mutual, as manager Klopp loves Mbappe. “I can say that I think he’s a really good player but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all,” the Reds boss told Sky Germany in August.

“I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now… but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it. It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me… that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”

The largest transfer of Klopp’s career, it would undoubtedly return Liverpool to their former status as the world’s top team—the precise position where Mbappe wants to play.
